Provides clinical support and performs a variety of patient care activities to assist the physicians with patient care in the office environment.
Assists patient flow through the office.
Reviews physician appointment schedules. Problem-solves when necessary.
Reviews EMR to ensure availability of diagnostic test results for the upcoming office visit. Initiates
proper mechanisms to obtain necessary reports not found in the record.
Escorts patients to exam room; obtains and records height, weight, pulse and blood pressure; obtains and records current medications and primary complaint and/or purpose of visit from patient.
Performs routine diagnostic office testing. Ensures proper identification and date are placed on reports. Make sure reports are scanned for physician review.
Assist physician during patient examination, minor procedures and treatments, as directed
Prepares exam rooms and assembles necessary supplies and equipment for the examination or testing.
Instructs and assists patients with testing.
Labels, maintains and completes necessary requisition forms according to laboratory protocol.
Under supervision of physician, records and administers injections and dispenses sample medications to patients
Assists with patient education and distribution of educational and instructional material as directed by the physician and/or designee.
Answers and screens telephone calls, completes electronic prescription requests along with clearing and responding to patient and pharmacy calls left on the dedicated pharmacy line.
Document all phone activities directly involving patients in the electronic health record.
Copies electronic health records and completes inquiry forms after ensuring necessary authorizations/releases of information are obtained in accordance with patients’ rights of privacy.
Maintains the quality of equipment being used in the office practice.
Cleans and disinfects equipment, per protocol.
Autoclaves and disinfects equipment, per protocol.
Practices universal precaution, per protocol.
Inventories medications and samples monthly for expiration dates and properly disposes of outdated products.
Checks inventory control levels of supplies and places orders to ensure adequate
Attends required meetings and in-services.
Participates in team efforts to guarantee efficient service to patients and physicians.
Maintains a professional appearance.
Maintains strict confidentiality.
Maintains a safe, clean environment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Discusses/Uses appropriate language and topics.
Skills & Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Minimum Education: High school diploma. Completion of Medical Assistant’s course.
Minimum Work Experience: Six to twelve months as a Medical Assistant in a physician’s office.
Contacts with Others: Interpersonal skills necessary to maintain productive working relationships with physicians, patients and their families, staff and other physician practices, hospital and scheduling staff, pharmacists, customer service representatives of insurance companies, and sales representatives. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Analytical Demands: Ability to interpret physician’s orders, review electronic health records to determine information to be released.
Certification, Licensure, and Registration: Medical Assistant Certification required.
